The Seagate Data Recovery Process
The Seagate data recovery process for your data can begin with our online data recovery form or, by simply calling toll-free 0 800 5500 999 and speaking with one of our customer care professionals. Your CBL recovery professional will step you through a series of questions to determine the likelihood of data recoverability, potential costs involved and guide you through the process. Depending on the type of data recovery service you choose, your data could be recovered in as little as 24 hours.
As soon as the Seagate hard drive is received, it is immediately logged into our system. At this point, you will receive a call from your CBL customer care professional who will confirm receipt of the unit and gather any further information required by our CBL laboratory engineers. The hard drive is then quickly sent into the laboratory for evaluation. During this evaluation stage, whenever possible, a copy of your media is made. As one of CBL’s founding policies, we make sure that the original data and media is never compromised in any way. Once the evaluation is complete, your customer care professional will contact you to inform you of the evaluation results and we will follow up with a written quotation for your approval.
When the data is recovered, it is taken through a strict quality control process to ensure it is in a usable format. Your data is returned to you in the media of your choice. In most cases, DVD-ROM’s are utilized but an external USB hard disk can also be provided. In some cases, CBL can send data back via FTP transfer. This allows you to download data from our servers quickly and securely.

A Special Note to Seagate Customers
While many computer hobbyists and smaller data recovery firms will attempt recovery processes following steps found in various videos on YouTube, CBL possesses the techniques and technology to go beyond these troubleshooting steps and retrieve data that could not otherwise be obtained. Less than 5% of all Seagate hard drives received by CBL during 2009 were the ‘bricked’ firmware problems associated with Seagate 7200.11 units. The vast majority of units received were hard drives with damage to the media surface and subsequently their read/write heads, due to initial problems arising from the defect map not being able to account for any new errors. While CBL encourages the troubleshooting of hard drives, please be aware that attempting to debug a supposed firmware issue on a hard drive which is not a 7200.11 unit, or a hard drive which is ‘clicking’, will only cause further problems and/or damage to the disk surfaces. More information on Seagate firmware problems can be found here.
